SNOW WHITE and the SEVEN DWARFS
BUT FIRST... A BELATED REVIEW FOR OUR PRODUCTION OF OLIVER! 28th APRIL 2011 AS APPEARED IN "AMATEUR STAGE" MAGAZINE, NOVEMBER 2011 EDITION
Director: Ian Dinham
Musical Director: Ian Dinham
Choreographers: Sian Dinham & Ceri Furber
Merthyr Amateur Dramatics gave a solid production of Lionel Bart's "Oliver!" in April.
Ian Dinham as Fagin was superb, giving an extremely professional portrayal and not missing any nuances of the character whatsoever. Well done Ian!
Nancy was played brilliantly by Sallyanne Wilson. Her rendition of 'As Long As He Needs Me' was extremely moving and a highlight of the production.
Kris Thomas as Bill Sykes was well cast, portraying the menacing side of Bill perfectly.
There were other strong performances from Chelsea Rees as Bet, Gareth Price-Stephens as Noah Claypole, Jenna Tuthill as Charlotte, Eric Dinham as Mr Brownlow and Carly Price as Mrs Bedwin. Sarah Griffiths as Mrs Sowerberry was well cast and Ryan Price-Stephens as Mr Sowerberry gave a quirky performance which I really enjoyed.
Ron Price-Stephens and Jemma Thompson as Mr Bumble and Widow Corney were excellent and great fun in their scenes together.
The remainder of the cast and chorus all worked hard to portray the various characters in the ensemble numbers. One criticism would be the attention to detail in terms of costumes and props. It is important in a period musical to try to replicate the exact look of the era.
That said, this was an enjoyable production from a talented company. Ian Dinham as Director did a sterling job in bringing this production to the stage.
Well done, and thank you for your welcome!

SNOW WHITE REVIEWS
I have been to your last two shows, and I think that this show was the best yet. I can see that the group is steadily growing and getting better with each production. Looking forward to seeing your next show! -

I wouldn't ever pass up the chance to see MAD performing based on previous successful productions. I have to say that Snow White was the best yet. It had everything - great acting and singing and extremely funny throughout. It was the first time my other half has been to a MAD show, she has since assured me that it will definately not be the last. Thanks for the entertainment! - R Jones
Well done again Ian, Sian, Ceri and the MAD team! Great show again, looking forward to a completely different challenge with "Back To The 80's." The music and dancing will be of top standard again. Of course, congratulations to lighting, sound and backstage crews. Very proud! - M Bracegirdle
The show was fantastic! My four year old grandson was transfixed by everybody on the stage! Can't wait to come and see the next show! - M Davies
I came to see your show with my fiancee and little boy. I had heard about MAD shows before, and wanted to come and see for myself after I had heard how good Oliver was. I thought Snow White was excellent, and my little boy was kept entertained throughout! The effects, singing, acting, costumes, dancing, sound, lights and scenery were very impressive and I can't wait to see your next show!- J Thomas
Thanks for such a wonderful afternoon of first class entertainment! I didn't stop laughing all the way through, especially at the dame and the comedy duo Quill & Scribbles. As a matter of fact, there were so many great aspects to this show that I can't list them all! You played to a packed hall, and as I understand it, all of the previous nights had been just as full. Had I not come on the final show I would have certainly returned! It was of an exceptionally high standard, and you deserve the full praise you are no doubt getting. Can't wait for Back To The 80's!

Well done to MAD - an excellent production of Snow White last night. Nice to see a full auditorium of people who clearly enjoyed themselves. Looks as if this company are going from strength to strength (if there were tickets left I'd say "go and see it" but it's sold out)! Keep up the good work Ian & Sian, it's starting to pay off! - J Grummitt
Fantastic show tonight, you all just get better and better. Looking forward to the next one! - B Kilby
